Preventative anti-ageing skincare - Lacrème Beauté

Preventative anti-ageing skincare

As we know all too well, time leaves an indelible mark on our skin. While many skincare routines focus on reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles after they've surfaced, the real secret to maintaining youthful skin lies in proactive, preventive measures. From nurturing our lymphatic system to embracing a rejuvenating diet, there is much that we can do to age gracefully, naturally, and promote long-term skin health, youth and radiance.

The sun

One of the most important things you can do for preventative anti-ageing is to prevent sun damage, which can wreak havoc on the skin. Prolonged exposure to UV light from the sun causes a process known as photoaging, where collagen and elastin fibres break down, resulting in the loss of skin elasticity and the formation of wrinkles and fine lines. UV rays also stimulate the production of free radicals, unstable molecules that damage cellular structures and DNA, and can cause uneven pigmentation by prompting the skin to produce excess melanin, resulting in sunspots and an overall uneven tone.

Avoiding sun damage starts with minimising sun exposure. We recommend seeking shade during the sun's peak hours, particularly during the summer months when its intensity is particularly potent, and shielding your face from direct sunlight with a beautiful wide-brimmed hat. If you're considering adding an SPF to your skincare regime, prioritise those formulated with exclusively natural ingredients, as toxic chemicals in skincare products can accelerate ageing. Opt for a mineral sunscreen enriched with zinc oxide, and blend it into the skin after applying your favourite moisturiser. Remember that the ultimate goal is to steer clear of sunburn at all costs, as it inflicts irreversible damage to your skin's health and appearance.

Hydration

The absolute foundation of youthful and radiant skin is hydration. Skin cells, like every other cell in the body, are made primarily of water. Without adequate hydration, the skin can quickly become dry, less bouncy and resilient, and far more prone to wrinkles. To keep your skin properly hydrated, supple and radiant, drink plenty of pure, filtered water and herbal teas, aiming for at least eight cups per day.

In your skincare regime, place a focus on deeply hydrating facial oils, balms and moisturisers, formulated with ingredients rich in essential fatty acids and hydrating nutrients, and those that stimulate collagen production. A favourite evening ritual of ours is to follow the Bee Venom Cream with the Bee Venom Beauty Boost balm, designed to act synergistically to promote collagen and elastin production, improve blood flow, nutrient delivery and hydration status. Applying your balm after your cream helps to seal in the moisture and active ingredients, for them to work their magic as long as possible. However, we advise using a silk pillowcase to prevent your product from being absorbed by your pillow.

Make sure also to use gentle, hydrating cleansers to avoid stripping the skin of its natural oils, such as the Glow, which makes a beautifully hydrating balm cleanser for all skin types, or the Gentle Milk Cleanser for a more traditional cleanse. Finally, using a facial mist like the Skin Revive can help to maintain hydration levels throughout the day.

Antioxidants, inflammation and collagen

Lack of moisture, collagen and elastin degradation, inflammation and free radical damage are among the primary drivers of skin ageing. Our organic skincare formulations prioritise potent natural ingredients that proactively and effectively address signs of ageing. These powerful ingredients deliver essential nutrients, antioxidants and stimulate collagen production, working both therapeutically and preventatively to nourish, hydrate and repair the skin to reduce signs of ageing and enhance its youthful, vibrant glow. Look out for our blog post next week that will discuss the most powerful ingredients we use, known for their anti-ageing benefits.

Facial massage

As we learn more about its extraordinary benefits, facial massage is evolving from a relaxing indulgence to a crucial step in preventative anti-ageing skincare. Facial massage stimulates blood flow, optimising oxygen and nutrient delivery to your skin cells to help maintain their vitality, leading to a brighter and more radiant complexion. It also encourages lymphatic drainage, which promotes the removal of toxins that could potentially congest or damage the skin, and reduces puffiness. Using facial contouring techniques can even sculpt and lift the face, accentuating its natural beauty while favouring skin elasticity. Moreover, facial massage improves the absorption and action of the actives in your skincare products, making it the perfect adjunct to a luxurious, preventative, anti-ageing skincare regime. Commit to a daily facial massage ritual for optimal results in both the short and long term, a practice that will pay immense dividends over time in maintaining healthy, glowy and youthful skin.

Forgotten areas

The face often takes centre stage in skincare, leaving other vital areas to be neglected. The skin around our eyes is delicate and thin, making it especially vulnerable to fine lines, dark circles and puffiness. Using a gentle eye cream, enriched with hydrating and antioxidant ingredients such as aloe vera and blackcurrant seed oil in our Restorative Eye Cream, is an important step in maintaining this area's youthfulness. Our necks and décolletés are often-forgotten areas, yet equally susceptible to the effects of ageing. Make a habit of always extending your skincare routine to your neck and décolleté, ensuring they receive the same level of attention and care as your beautiful face. Last but not least, our hands can sneakily betray our age if not adequately cared for. Our beauté tip is to blend residual oils, creams and balms into the back of your hands during each skincare ritual, night and day, to keep them hydrated, nourished, protected and youthful.

Beauty inside-out

Our skin is a reflection of our inner health as much as outer care. Taking care of your inner wellbeing is crucial to maintaining youthful vitality, from the inside to the outside. No amount of exceptional skin care can outrun an imbalanced diet and unhealthy lifestyle behaviours. Head over to our blog post on Holistic Beauty to learn more about how to nourish your skin from within.
